2024 Acura ZDX EV arrived with a Thrilling 500 HP Type S Model

A fresh rendition of Acura’s signature “Precision Crafted Performance” ethos takes center stage in the form of the 2024 Acura ZDX. While this new mid-size SUV marks a departure from the longstanding era of internal combustion engines, it retains its performance-oriented identity with the inclusion of the spirited Type S variant, catering to Acura enthusiasts who relish dynamic driving experiences.

Acura’s first Electric Vehicle

For those taken by surprise at the revelation of the ZDX, a brief overview is in order. Not only does the ZDX nameplate make a comeback from its 2009 coupe-like SUV inception, but it also signifies Acura’s foray into the realm of electric vehicles. The exterior design showcased in these images for the 2024 ZDX, ready for production, was previously previewed by the Precision EV concept last year.

It’s worth noting that this Acura is constructed on GM’s Ultium scalable battery platform, sharing notable similarities with the Cadillac Lyriq, including an identical 121.8-inch wheelbase. While slightly taller, the Acura measures 64.4 inches in width and 77.0 inches in height, resulting in a subtly more slender profile. Moreover, the ZDX stretches over an inch longer at 197.7 inches from front to rear.

Distinctive Styling and Features

The ZDX boasts an individualistic design characterized by “Jewel Eye” LED headlights and a pentagonal faux grille embellished with a three-dimensional textured surface and an illuminated contour. The “floating” roof design rests above sleek bodywork, which is particularly striking in the exclusive Double Apex Blue Pearl paint, available solely for the Type S variant (also offered in the Tiger Eye Pearl shade). The Type S variant stands out further with its 22-inch wheels, in contrast to the A-Spec’s 20-inch wheels. The rear styling is completed by elegantly sleek taillights.

2024 Acura ZDX Variants: A-Spec and Type S

The ZDX lineup encompasses two powertrain options: a single-motor rear-drive setup or a dual-motor all-wheel-drive configuration. The rear-wheel-drive A-Spec iteration generates an impressive 340 horsepower. While an all-wheel-drive version exists, Acura has yet to disclose the output figures for this configuration. In contrast, the high-performance ZDX Type S packs specially tuned dual motors, channeling an exhilarating 500 horsepower to all four wheels. Regardless of powertrain, both models exhibit a towing capacity of up to 3500 pounds.

2024 Acura ZDX battery and range

Each ZDX model is equipped with a 102.0-kWh battery pack, capable of achieving a peak charging rate of 190 kW through a DC fast-charger. Acura’s claims suggest that a 10-minute charge can add an estimated 81 miles of range to the single-motor A-Spec variant. This model is projected to offer an EPA-estimated range of 325 miles per charge (315 with all-wheel drive). On the other hand, the Type S is anticipated to provide a range of 288 miles.

Driving Dynamics and Interior Comfort

Underpinning each ZDX is a fully independent suspension system. While the A-Spec variant employs coil springs, the Type S boasts adaptive dampers and air bags that facilitate adjustable ride heights. The performance-oriented Type S further enhances its sporty nature with upgraded brakes, incorporating larger 15.6-inch front rotors pinched by Brembo six-piston calipers. Acura also caters to the Type S’s athletic demeanor by offering it with high-grip summer tires.

Stepping inside the ZDX, the interior design maintains consistency with other Acura models. The dash and door trims blend seamlessly, featuring soft surfaces adorned with contrasting stitching. The central console accommodates cupholders, a wireless charging slot, and a flat storage tray. Beneath the upper section lies an open space designed to accommodate bulkier items.

Acura’s commitment to tactile controls is evident, with knobs and buttons facilitating control over the HVAC system and stereo volume. The audio experience is elevated by an 18-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system, a standard feature across all ZDX models. Standard offerings also encompass an 11.0-inch digital gauge cluster and an 11.3-inch touchscreen equipped with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, powered by the Android operating system and incorporating Google’s voice assistance, maps, and app store.

Advanced Driver Assistance and Autonomous Capabilities

The ZDX’s array of driver assistance technologies encompasses familiar features, while also introducing innovations like rear cross-traffic braking and rear pedestrian alerts. The highlight is the AcuraWatch 360+, which debuts as the brand’s rendition of GM’s Super Cruise hands-free driving system. This empowers the ZDX to navigate itself across over 400,000 miles of mapped roadways spanning the U.S. and Canada.

2024 Acura ZDX Pricing and Availability

Anticipated pricing for the 2024 Acura ZDX A-Spec model begins around $60,000, while the more performance-oriented Type S variant is expected to start in the vicinity of $70,000. Pre-orders are scheduled to open later in the year, with customer deliveries projected for early 2024. Notably, Acura retains the involvement of dealerships in the ZDX sales process, albeit with online transactions accessible from either a dealership or the comfort of one’s home.
